Indication


NORMACOLD ENEMA FOR CHILDREN is a laxative rectal solution in a 130ml bottle used for:
- radiological examination and recto sigmoid endoscopy examination preparation
- symptomatic treatment for constipation.

How to take this drug


Rectal. DO NOT SWALLOW.

Dosage


Preparation for endoscopy and radiological examinations:
1 wash the night before and 1 the day of the examination.
Constipation:
1 wash 5-20 minutes before going to the toilet.

Frequency of dose


Not applicable.

Composition


Active ingredients:
Sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate: 10.92 g
Sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate: 4.8 g
Per single dose of 130ml.
Other ingredients:
Hydrolysed sterculia gum, sorbic acid, soda methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219), purified water.

Format


This medication is in the form of a rectal solution in a single-dose. Box of 1.

Precautions for use


It is not recommended to use this solution if you have bleeding, anal fractures or haemorrhagic rectocolitis.
Elderly patients, those suffering from renal insufficiency and those under a strict no salt diet need to be careful when taking this medication.
Patients must be encouraged to keep hydrated during treatment.
IF IN DOUBT DO NOT HESITATE TO CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.
Special warnings:
This drug contains sodium methyl-parahydroxybenzoate (E219) and can cause local skin reactions.
This drug contains sorbic acid and salts and can cause local skin reactions (for example: eczema).
Prolonged or repeated use is not recommended.
Occasional constipation:
This can be linked to a change in lifestyle (travelling). This is short-term help. Inform of your doctor if constipation from an unexplained change in lifestyle with pain, fever, swelling of the face appears.
Chronic constipation (long-term)
This cannot be treated by a wash.
Can be linked to two causes:
- intestine illness
- an imbalance in the function of the intestine due to food habits and lifestyle.

Treatment should also be alongside:
- an increase in vegetable foods (green vegetables, crudities, bread, fruit...).
- an increase in water and fruit juice consumption.
- an increase in physical activity (sport, walking...).
- defecation reflex.
- addition to food.
Seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Specific precautions
Children:
Constipation treatment is also based on hygiene measures: use good quality water for milk, food rich in vegetables and fruit juice.
A wash treatment without a doctor’s consent is not recommended. Long-term treatment of a laxative is not recommended as this can upset defecation reflex.

Contraindications


Do not use NORMACOL WASH FOR CHILDREN rectal solution in the following cases:
- over-sensitivity to NORMACOL or one of its dilutants.
- for a child under 15 years of age.
- hydro-electrolyte disorders with sodium retention.
- patients with an intestinal occlusion.
- severe kidney failure.
- mega colon (congenital).

IF IN DOUBT IT IS ADVISABLE TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.

Pregnancy and breast feeding


Treatment of constipation of pregnancy should only involve rectal laxatives on a very ad hoc basis. It is better by a measure of precaution to not use phosphate washes.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any drugs.
